About 5.10 or 11 B.722 telephoned, and immediately afterwards

I telephoned myself to Taipo. Our telephone runs direct to Taipo.

I saw the time by the Charge Room clock. If the Taipo operator

says he didn't get any message until 5.45 p.m., then the Lok Ma

Chau clock must have been slow. It was only 13 or 14 minutes afte

after I was aroused that I telephoned. It was not & of an hour.

After the first shots upstairs, I heard 15 or 16 more fired from

at intervals up to 7 p.m. Many shots were also fired from

outside. I realised it was B.543 firing upstairs, and thought

the other shots outside came from the two Indian officers in the

married quarters firing at him. About 6 p.m. I went and looked

up the inner staircase: I saw that the grille at the top was

down, but saw nothing else. I know it was our duty to have gone

and looked for B.543 to shoot him down, but it was impossible

because he had the machine gun.

3.315 was one of the gun-team.

B.543 was not a Lewis Gunner.

As soon as he and I were aroused,

I saw him go to the charge Room for the gun, but he came back

without it. B.722 first told me that the gun wasn't there. B.315

went in to Charge Room at once but never told me for 10-15 minutes

I shouted out

that the gun wasn't there. I thought 3.543 was able to fire

the Lewis Gun but I heard no machine gun fire.

About 7.30 p.m. there was a lot of firing outside.

shouted back "Mr. Sparrow orders you to come out of the Station

if you can. " Then we made our way out one by one past the cook-

house and through the compound. On my way out I saw B.9 just

outside our door. I knew at beginning that he had been shot.

We made no attempt to succour him on account of the firing

outside.

He never told me that B.9 was lying still alive just

outside the door. When B.722 returned, he handed me the o. in C's

revolver fully loaded. I can't remember at what time I fired
